🔮 2025 PREDICTIONS
Winning the AI Revolution: SaaS, Talent, and Founder Mode in 2025 and Beyond
The AI revolution isn’t a fleeting wave—it’s here to stay, much like the internet and mobile technology before it. As companies scramble to integrate AI into their operations, the long-term winners will be those who marry innovation with deep customer insight, robust talent strategies, and a culture of ownership. "AI isn’t just the next step—it’s a leap forward," says Milin Desai, CEO of Sentry. "The question isn’t whether to adopt AI but how to use it responsibly and effectively to transform your business." These insights offer a vision for how businesses can position themselves to lead in this new era.
SaaS in the Age of AI: The Ingredients for Success
AI is cementing itself as a must-have in the SaaS space, but not all implementations will succeed. While some vendors are simply tacking large language models (LLMs) onto existing features, the real winners will have three critical components: deep domain expertise, a tight feedback loop, and unique, exclusive data.
Milin emphasizes that these factors distinguish meaningful innovation from gimmicks. "You can’t just stuff an LLM into a product and hope for the best," he explains. "It’s about solving real problems for your customers in a way that respects their privacy and makes their lives better. When you do that, you don’t have to sell it—it sells itself."
At Sentry, this approach is exemplified by how the platform uses AI to enhance developer workflows. By leveraging exclusive data and focusing on automation that aligns with developers’ needs, Sentry has significantly reduced issue noise, enabling teams to solve problems faster. This customer-first ethos is central to succeeding in the AI-driven SaaS landscape. → Continue reading here.
👾 FORWARD FUTURE ORIGINAL
Econ 08 | Digitization and Dematerialization
In the last two articles, here and here, I chronicled the rapid development of the fields of software and hardware. Let’s now examine in further detail how a great many aspects of activity and production are moving from the physical (hardware) world to the digital (software).
Originally, a ‘computer’ referred to an individual who carried out computation - calculations on a large sheet of paper spread across a table or the room (the physical spreadsheet!), or switched wires (an early physical way of coding) on bulky devices (early forms of what we now call computers).
However, you can bet that nowadays almost nobody knows of this meaning of the word ‘computer’. Bizarre as this may sound, the computer itself has been digitized from a human computer to a digital computer! I have already touched upon a second iteration of this in the hardware revolution article. Let’s examine other areas where this physical-to-digital transition has happened or is happening.
The advent of the calculator can be seen as an early popular example of the digitization, in this case, of arithmetic. Of course, the digital calculator, a single-purpose device as hinted in the last article, has been in effect subsumed by the general-purpose computer, but it’s the same idea. This then extends to wider office applications such as word processing, remember the spreadsheet mentioned above? → Continue reading here.
🧠 AI CONSCIOUSNESS
What Should We Do if AI Becomes Conscious? Scientists Say It’s Time for a Plan
The Recap: The rapid rise of AI is pushing experts to confront a once science-fictional dilemma: what if AI becomes conscious? Researchers propose testing AI systems for consciousness and establishing policies for their ethical treatment to prevent harm or neglect, even if the scenario seems far-fetched today.
Researchers argue that neglecting a conscious AI system could cause suffering, raising moral and ethical concerns.
Critics find the notion premature or unlikely but agree planning wouldn’t hurt, given AI’s growing role in society.
Anil Seth highlights that the real issue isn’t just creating AI but ensuring conscious systems are ethically treated, referencing "Frankenstein" as a cautionary tale.
Jonathan Mason stresses the need for consciousness assessment methods, warning of over-reliance on unexamined systems.
Misjudging AI consciousness could lead to misplaced welfare efforts, diverting resources from humans or animals.
The report identifies a "transitional moment" for AI welfare, with organizations like Anthropic hiring dedicated AI-welfare researchers.
This growing focus reflects a shift within the AI community toward treating AI consciousness and moral significance seriously.
Forward Future Takeaways:
While the idea of conscious AI might seem speculative, its potential emergence could have seismic societal implications. Planning for this possibility, even now, can help ensure ethical frameworks are in place to handle unforeseen scenarios responsibly. Whether AI consciousness becomes a reality or remains theoretical, these discussions mark an essential step toward integrating AI into society thoughtfully and sustainably. → Read the full article here.
